Get Your Perfect Smile With Cosmetic Dental Care

Get Your Perfect Smile With Cosmetic Dental Care

Chipped or cracked teeth? No need to break the bank for a beautiful smile. Find out how cosmetic dental care and direct bonding can give you a reason to smile.
Are you embarrassed about your smile? Thinking about cosmetic dental care? You're not alone.
A recent survey by the journal Dental Economics showed cosmetic dental care accounted for 23% of general practice production. Another study by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry revealed 86% of patients who had cosmetic work done did it to look better and raise self-esteem.
Cosmetic dental care comes in a variety of forms. Whether you want to cover up any chips or cracks, replace a tooth or simply achieve a brighter smile, there are a number of procedures that can help. They don't have to cost a pretty penny, either.
Here are some cosmetic dental care procedures to help give you that perfect smile.
Whitening
Teeth whitening is one of the most common cosmetic procedures.
Depending on things we eat and drink, such as coffee, or particular habits, like smoking, teeth can become stained and discolored over time. A dentist can work on bleaching your teeth in the office or provide you with a kit to do it at home. Whitening at home may be more convenient, but you'll get results faster if you visit the dentist.
Whitening is not meant to replace cleaning and doesn't make your teeth immune to stains. It's important to maintain good oral hygiene and avoid the same things that stained your teeth in the first place.
Bonding
Bonding can fill in the spaces between teeth in order to hide gaps, chips or cracks by applying resin material directly onto your teeth. The material is shaped to your teeth to make your smile look as perfect as possible.
The procedure can often be completed in one session. Bonding can last for several years, but the material isn't as strong as natural teeth so it can be subject to wear and tear.
Veneers
Typically made from porcelain, veneers are shells that cover the front of your teeth in order to adjust the color and shape. Veneers last longer than bonding and can also look better.
Before inserting veneers, a dentist takes an impression of your teeth and buffs them before cementing the veneers in place. Porcelain veneers are made in a laboratory, so a second visit is required before they're applied.
Crowns
As the name suggests, crowns cover a tooth in order to give back it's normal shape and appearance. They can be used to fix a misshapen or broken tooth, protect a weak tooth or cover a tooth that's had another procedure performed on it.
Crowns are made of metal, resin or ceramic materials. They tend to be costly, but can have a very long lifetime if you take care of them.
Bridges
Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by missing teeth and replace them with artificial ones. The surrounding teeth are first prepared for crowns before the false teeth are anchored to the crowns and the bridge is cemented to the prepared teeth.
Bridges can be made of metal, porcelain or a combination.
Implants
Dental implants are a more long-term solution to replacing missing teeth. Rather than being anchored to adjacent teeth, like in bridges, implants attach artificial teeth directly to the jawbone.
One implant can replace a tooth, while two or more can support the replacement of several teeth.

Sound Dentistry Seattle: Dental Implants
Losing your teeth to an accident, gum disease or something else – can be detrimental. Teeth loss not only creates problems with eating and speaking but can also make you feel more self-conscious about how you look.  Losing your teeth can be physically and emotionally upsetting, but luckily there’s an answer.
Dental implants are a substitute for missing broken down, or loose teeth.  Teeth restored with dental implants look, feel and function just like normal teeth do.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is basically fused into your jawbone. As opposed to bridges, dental implants don’t damage the neighboring teeth and are a great long-term solution for missing teeth or a single tooth. Dental implants are made of special material – titanium metal, which makes them highly durable, and biocompatible.
Before the procedure
Dr. Nicolini will do a thorough dental exam and take x-rays of your teeth and jaws.  Molds of your mouth will also be taken for evaluating the areas being considered for dental implants.
Your gums and remaining good teeth will need to be healthy before proceeding with dental implants, to prevent complications or implant failures.  The entire dental implant procedure is a 3-step process.
Placing a dental implant
First step involves surgically placing the implant into the jaw bone to replace the missing tooth root. Surgical placement of the dental implant is typically performed by an oral surgeon or a periodontist.
At the second stage the surgeon checks how the implant has assimilated and evaluates the surrounding gum tissues.
Restoring dental implant
Two to four months after the implants are placed and the surgeon has confirmed the implants are fully integrated and ready to restore you will be referred back to Dr. Nicolini for impressions.  The third and final step of course is fabricating and placing the abutments and artificial teeth. The abutments attach to the implants and the artificial teeth attach to the abutments.
Benefits of dental implants

First of all, implants do not shift or move, therefore giving you the stability and feeling much like with your own teeth.  Secondly, they should be easy to maintain – again, you can brush them just like you brush your own teeth. Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, they prevent the shifting of neighboring teeth and maintain the natural shape of your face. Last but not the least – implants are the best solution for missing teeth because they look good, function like teeth and they help people feel better about themselves.

Our Seattle Dentist Yelp Reviews

12/04/15 – BK. Seattle, WA - FIVE STARS!

Great Dentist! I am hooked no pain and always excellent work.  Keep it up!

5/27/2015 – Monique V. Belleview, WA - FIVE STARS!

First, to be completely transparent, the Dental Hygienist, Doreen is my mom so I'm a little biased about the quality cleanings I get at Sound Dentistry   But even the kid of a dental professional can get a cavity every once in a while.
Dr. Nicolini has been my dentist for about 20 years and in all that time I have never once been afraid to get a cavity drilled or filled. He and his staff constantly ask you how you are doing throughout the procedure as your comfort is key to them. In fact, during my last procedure I was so relaxed I started to tap my toes and fingers to the beat of the music overhead.
I also can't say enough about the quality work their technician John does to create your crown, implant, bleaching trays, etc. It's been just about 10 years since he made my bleaching trays and they still work great!
Quick, quality work...and they have an awesome Dental Hygienist!

6/25/2014 – Eric C. Chicago, IL - FIVE STARS!

Just moved to Seattle from Midwest and was long over due check up and cleaning. After putting it off longer than I should, I finally started the hunt for my next dentist. After scrolling through reviews of what seemed like thousands of dentists, I came across Sound Dentistry and its very professional appearance. I did a little more research and decided to make my appointment with Dr. Rick Nicolini DDS.
Upon arrival, I was greeted kindly and graciously by Mary Ellen at the front desk. I filled out some very easy forms and grabbed a chair in the modern and very comforting waiting room. I felt very calm with the beautiful saltwater fish tank that I sat across from, that I almost fell asleep. Lol. That never happens at the dentist.
After a brief 15 min wait, Dr Nicolini came to bring me to the back. I figured I would be led to a darkened cramp single chair room, but to my surprise, it was very open layout.  One giant room with about 5 or 6 chairs that were nice separated by partitions, very much like a loft. We went straight into the exam after some small talk. Dr Nicolini made me feel very relaxed. After an initial examination, it looked as if I had a cavity. On to the x-ray room we went. After maybe 15 min the x-rays were ready and turned out I did indeed have a small cavity. The Dr said he would be able to take care of it today and not have to make another appointment. I couldn’t believe it,  I was thrilled.
Dr Nicolini began right away and I was done in 1/2 hr. I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t feel a thing. Not even the numbing shot. They use a special shot with very tiny needle that is connected to a small machine that helps administer the anesthetic. Coolest thing ever.
Directly after I went and received my teeth cleaning. The teeth cleaning was done with a high pressure stream of water with salt granules that basically give your teeth a blast. This was also very much so painless. I was done in 25min.
In the end, I could not be happier. Dr Nicolini and his staff are the greatest. Im so happy I found Sound Dentistry. Thank You!

 6/25/14 - Suzanne M. Sammamish, WA - FIVE STARS!
If you are looking for outstanding care and a polite, professional staff, Sound Dentistry is your place!!!  I have been a patient of Dr Nicolini's for 10+ years now. His hygienist, Doreen, is fast, up to date on the latest technology and very sweet. Dr Nicolini has helped me through countless filling and crowns. I feel like he takes personal pride in making sure I have a beautiful smile!

7/26/14 - Christina M. Snoqualmie, WA - FIVE STARS!

Dr Nicolini and his staff are awesome!!!  In addition to my regular 6 month checkups, he also whitened my teeth and got rid of the Madonna gap between my two front teeth!!!  I love my smile again!

8/27/14 - Matt M. Snoqualmie, WA - FIVE STARS!
Recently started a new job in Seattle and figured I would find a dentist close to work. Through a Google search (sound dentistry) I found Dr. Nicolini. After my third visit the staff continues to exceed my expectations and I feel Dr. Nicolini has been very honest and fair with my needs, which is hard to find from dentists these days. As an example, Dr. Nicolini was upfront with the fact that if I needed specialized work he would not hesitate to refer me out to a specialist (Orthodontists or Endodontists etc...) and that speaks volumes because it showed he cared about my teeth and not to just make a buck off of me ;-)  I have had bad experiences in the past with other dentists trying to push work that I didn't need, frustrating to say the least! If I have any advice, get a SECOND or even a THIRD opinion on all work...  Don't get ripped off!

 9/23/13 - Ellie H. Seattle, WA - FIVE STARS!
Everyone on his staff is skilled; Dr. Nicolini is very professional and is agreeable with prioritizing dental work needed based on your insurance coverage.  Highly recommend this practice.  Have been a patient since the mid-1990s.

2/29/2012 - Olivia F. Seattle WA - FIVE STARS!

I have been going to Dr. Nicolini for 5+ years. Best dentist I ever had!! Thanks so much for making my experience at the dentist enjoyable :)
